David Nasatir arrived at Berkeley in 1957 as a graduate student in Sociology with an undergraduate degree from MIT and a Masters Degree from Stanford. He joined the instructional staff as a lecturer and as an Acting Assistant Professor while pursuing his Ph.D. He has taught undergraduate and graduate courses at the University of Buenos Aires, UCLA , the American University in Washington DC, UC Davis, and served as a Fulbright Visiting Scholar at the Fundaçao Candido Mendes in Rio de Janeiro. He was Professor and Chair of the Graduate Program in Behavioral Sciences at the California State University, Dominguez Hills and served as the Resident Director of the CSU Study Abroad Program in Italy until becoming Professor Emeritus in 1994. He has been a Visiting Professor in the Department of Sociology at Berkeley since 1996.

Nasatir's work has been marked by the application of sociological research to the identification, description and evaluation of efforts to solve social problems. To these ends he served as Director of the International Data Library of the University of California's Survey Research Center, consulted for UNESCO, the Ford Foundation, the Government of Chile and the United States Agency for International Development.
