Discrimination is one of the most difficult social phenomena to discuss. In this seminar we will delve into the social scientific literature on discrimination. We will critically examine definitions of discrimination, the challenge of identifying discrimination effects, and possible policy responses to discrimination.
Seminar participants are required to complete one of the following: an empirical research proposal, 2)an empirical research paper, or 3)a critical epistemological contribution that goes beyond a review of the literature. For possibilities one and two any research method appropriate to a question can be used or proposed. Just as we will read research using a variety of methods, I expect papers will reflect a variety of methods and theoretical commitments.
