Graduation Checklist
JANUARY/FEBRUARY
□ Degree Check with Sociology Advisors
Make sure you're completing all of your major requirements with a Sociology Undergraduate Advisor.
□ Degree Check with Letters and Science
Make sure you're completing all of your university and college requirements. For a quick check, request a DARS audit through BearFacts. If you find a discrepancy regarding an L&S requirement (Breadth, Reading & Comp, Quantitative Reasoning, Foreign Language), see an L&S advisor.
□ Add to the Degree List (for Spring 2013 graduates)
If you're planning to finish all your requirements during the Spring 2013 semester, notify the university of your intention to graduate by placing yourself on the degree list via Tele-BEARS by the third week of instruction; after that, file a "Petition to be Added to the Degree List" at L&S in 206 Evans Hall A.S.A.P. To find out whether or not you're on the degree list, check your Personal Profile on BearFacts.
MARCH
□ Register for the Sociology Commencement Ceremony : March 4th – March 15th
The Sociology Graduation will be held Monday, May 20th at 8:45amin Zellerbach Auditorium. Ceremony begins at 8:45am. Complete the Exit Survey and Registration Form online – Deadline for registration is March 15th. Check out the rest of the website for information about what to do oncommencement day, caps & gowns, ordering photographs, getting your diploma, parking, and more.
□ Contact Rebecca Chavez by March 15th at rebeccaisme@berkeley.edu if you or any of your guests will need a Sign Language Interpreter or a Real-Time Captioner.
MARCH - MAY
□ Order your Grad Pack and/or rent your cap & gown from the Cal Student Store
Regalia (caps & gown) is handled by the bookstore. Please see CalStudentStore.com (see below for information about the Grad Finale Event)
APRIL
□Attend the Cal Student Store’s Grad Finale Event in Early April (see CalStudentStore.comfor information)
Come for your first chance to pick up tickets to the University-wide Commencement Convocation (on Saturday, May 18th at 10:00 am in Memorial Stadium) get your cap and gown, check out class rings, contribute to the Senior Class gift and more. Please see CalStudentStore.com
□Get Tickets for the Sociology Commencement
Get your tickets April 15th-19th at 410 Barrows, 9:15-11:45 & 1:15-3:45. Bring cash. Plenty of advance information will be sent out regarding ticket sales, so stay tuned.
□Extra Ticket Sale Day : Thursday, April 25th, 10am SHARP (Likely to sell out by 10:15am)
If we have extra tickets to sell after the initial sale period (April 15-19th), they will go on sale Thursday, April 25th, at 10 a.m. outside of 410 Barrows Hall. You will receive plenty of information regarding extra ticket sales day.
□ Deadline to apply to be the Undergraduate Student Speaker : April 19th
Each year we select one student to present the Sociology Undergraduate Address during the ceremony. Any graduating senior in sociology may apply to be the speaker. If interested, you should submit a typewritten draft (more than an outline) of your proposed speech to the Director of Student Services in the Sociology Undergraduate Advising Office in Barrows Hall by Friday, April 19th. The speech should be no longer than 5 minutes. The Chair of the Sociology Department reviews the proposals and makes the final selection. □ Deadline to apply for Departmental Citation : April 19th
The Departmental Citation is an award recognizing undergraduate excellence in the UC Berkeley Sociology Department. Each year we select one graduating senior to receive this award for his/her outstanding accomplishments in sociology. For application information, please see the Department website. More information will be sent out in March.
□Get Tickets for the Campus-Wide Commencement Convocation
Commencement Convocation will be held Saturday, May 18th at 10:00am in Memorial Stadium. For more information, visit seniors.berkeley.edu
MAY
□Monday, May 6th -Wheelchair / Special Seating Needs
Arrangements for guests requiring wheelchair or other special seating should be made to Rebecca Chavez at rebeccaisme@berkeley.edu no later than May 7h.
□Tuesday, May 7th from 12-2 in Alumni House –Sociology Spring Honors Reception

□ Pick up your Alpha Kappa Delta (AKD) Honors Cord from Cristina Rojas in 424 Barrows Hall. Senior Honors (H190) students will be given their cord at the Sociology Commencement ceremony on May 20th.
□ Saturday, May 18th- Senior Convocation – 10:00am in Memorial Stadium
□ Monday, May 20th- Commencement Day!
All graduates should arrive no later than 8:30 am. Doors to Zellerbach will open at 8:00 am and seating is first-come, first-serve. The procession will begin at 8:45am.
□ Keep your address, phone, and email information current via BearFacts for at least 4 months after leaving Cal, in case the university needs to contact you about the processing of your degree.

SEPTEMBER
□ Check your unofficial transcript on BearFacts to make sure you've graduated!
OCTOBER
□ Diplomas for Spring 2013 graduates
