Graduation Checklist


 Degree Check with Sociology Advisors
Make sure you're completing all of your major requirements with a Sociology Undergraduate Advisor.

  Degree Check with Letters and Science
Make sure you're completing all of your university and college requirements. Please see an L&S advisor in 206 Evans.  

  Add to the Degree List (for Spring 2014 and Summer 2014 graduates)
If you're planning to finish all your requirements during the Spring 2014 or Summer 2014 semester, notify the university of your intention to graduate by submitting a "Petition to be Added to the Degree List" at L&S in 206 Evans Hall.   To find out whether or not you're on the degree list, check your Personal Profile on BearFacts.

   Register for the Sociology Commencement Ceremony : March 10th – March 21st
 Complete the Exit Survey and Registration Form online (link will be provided at a later date).  Deadline for registration is March 21st.  

  Contact Rebecca Chavez by March 14th at if you or any of your guests will need a Sign Language Interpreter or a Real-Time Captioner.


  Order  your Grad Pack and/or rent your cap & gown from the Cal Student Store
Regalia (caps & gown) is handled by the bookstore.  Please see  (see below for information about the Grad Finale Event)


Attend the Cal Student Store’s Grad Finale Event from April 8-11th  (see for information)

Get Tickets for the Sociology Commencement

After registering for the Sociology Commencement, you may come to 420 Barrows during the following days and times to pick up your TWO free tickets. Please note that students participating in the Sociology Commencement, do no need to purchase a ticket for themselves:

Tues, April 15th: 1:30-4pm

Wed, April 16th: 9-Noon

Tues, April 22nd: 1:30-4pm

Fri, April 25th: 9-Noon


-If you need additional tickets, you may purchase them directly from Cal Performances Box Office ( You may purchase up to six additional tickets at a cost of $10 per ticket.

*Please note that tickets are available for purchase to the general public. If you have concerns about a specific individual attending commencement, please inform Seng Saelee or Cristina Rojas immediately.

Deadline to apply to be the Undergraduate Student Speaker : April 11th

Each year we select one student to present the Sociology Undergraduate Address during the ceremony. Any graduating senior in Sociology may apply to be the speaker. If interested, you should email a draft (more than an outline) of your proposed speech to Cristina Rojas at by Friday, April 11th.  The speech should be no longer than 5 minutes. The Sociology Department reviews the proposals and makes the final selection. For additional information, please see an Undergraduate Advisor.

Deadline to apply for Departmental Citation : April 18th
The Departmental Citation is an award recognizing undergraduate excellence in the UC Berkeley Sociology Department. Each year we select one graduating senior to receive this award for his/her outstanding accomplishments in Sociology.  For application information, please see the Department website.

Get Tickets for the Campus-Wide Commencement Convocation
Commencement Convocation will be held Saturday, May 17th at 10:00am at Kabam Field in Memorial Stadium. For more information, visit

Pick up your Alpha Kappa Delta (AKD) Honors Cord from Cristina Rojas in 424 Barrows Hall

Saturday, May 17th- Senior Convocation

10:00am at Kabam Field in Memorial Stadium

 Monday, May 19th- Commencement Day!
All graduates should arrive no later than 8:30 am.  Doors to Zellerbach will open at  8:00 am and seating is first-come, first-serve.   The procession will begin at 8:45am.

Monday, May 19th- Senior Honors (H190 & H190B) Cords

Senior Honors (H190 & H190B) students will be given their cord at the Sociology Commencement ceremony.

Keep your address, phone, and email information current via BearFacts for at least 4 months after leaving Cal, in case the university needs to contact you about the processing of your degree.
