Prof. Mora wins Beatriz Manz Award

Professor Cristina Mora was awarded the 2026 Beatriz Manz Award. The Manz Award is given annually to a recently promoted professor in the College of Letters & Science who embodies the values and aspirations of the College in scholarship, teaching and mentorship, and service, and who serves as an inspiration to others in the campus community.

The award is named for Beatriz Manz, who was the first Latina full professor at Berkeley. Professor Manz directed the Berkeley Center for Latin American Studies and chaired the Department of Ethnic Studies. Her work has been focused on human rights and justice, particularly in Guatemala. The Working Group chose to name the award in honor of Professor Manz because of her commitment to a balance of scholarship, teaching, and work for the common good.
