Prospective Sociology Majors
CURRENT UC BERKELEY STUDENTS:
If you are a current UC Berkeley student interested in majoring in Sociology, be sure to review our Sociology major requirements as well as the steps for declaring the major. Be sure to RSVP to a Sociology Information Session in order to declare.- If you are interested in pursuing the Sociology major, you must complete Sociology 1 instead of Sociology 3AC.
HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS:
- The Department of Sociology is not involved in the Berkeley Admissions process. Be sure to review the Berkeley Admissions information available for first-year applicants.
- If you are hoping to complete any prerequisites at a California Community College while in high school, check that you are taking the correct prerequisite courses by reviewing the Articulation Agreements and major prerequisites available on assist.org
CALIFORNIA COMMUNITY COLLEGE STUDENTS:
- The Department of Sociology is not involved in the Berkeley Admissions process so be sure to review the UC Berkeley Transfer Admissions page to learn about transfer eligibility.
- California Community College students should be sure to take the correct prerequisite courses by reviewing the Articulation Agreements and major prerequisites available on assist.org
- For updates about how to prepare for transfer into the College of Letters and Science, you can review the L&S Transfer page.
- Transfer students admitted to UC Berkeley as Sociology majors will be officially declared into the Sociology major upon admission.
- Admitted Transfer students should review our New Junior Transfer Admit section of the Sociology website for help with next steps.
