Carmen Brick is a political sociologist who studies social policy, low-wage work, and stratification processes. Her dissertation research uses mixed methods to examine the political dynamics shaping the movement of social assistance into the tax system and leverages the variation in the adoption and development of state-level Earned Income Tax Credits (EITCs) to explore the causes and consequences of new welfare state forms. She has also collaborated on research projects examining the gender wage gap in the service sector and the disparities in policing experiences related to mental health and substance use statuses. She was previously a Presidential Management Fellow and a Scholars Strategy Network Graduate Fellow, and is current a grant recipient of the Horowitz Foundation for Social Policy and the Josephine de Karman Fellowship Trust.
