Graduation Checklist


Verify that your Expected Graduation Term is correct

Please verify that the Expected Graduation Term is correct by checking Cal Central. In the Personal Summary section of Cal Central, Spring 2023 (or Summer 2023 if you are graduating that term) will be listed under ‘Expected Graduation.’

□ Check your Academic Progress Report on Cal Central to confirm you will finish University, College of Letters and Science and Department of Sociology requirements.

  Complete the Sociology Department Exit Survey to register for the 2023 Sociology commencement.

The Sociology Exit Survey will be open from March 1-31,2023. Please contribute your input, ideas and experience to further develop the major program for those coming after you. 

There are 2 parts to this survey and the link for Part 1 will be given to students at a later date. The link for Part 2 can be found at the end when you complete Part 1. 


Sociology Commencement Tickets

Graduating Sociology majors who *registered* for commencement can pick up their 2 complimentary tickets from either adviser during drop-in advising hours Monday-Thursday from 10-Noon and 2-4pm.

Deadline to apply to be the Undergraduate Student Speaker: April 21st

Each year we select one student to present the Sociology Undergraduate Address during the ceremony. Any graduating senior in Sociology may apply to be the speaker. If interested, you should email a draft (more than an outline) of your proposed speech to Cristina Rojas at by Friday, April 21st. The speech should be no longer than 3-4 minutes. The Sociology Department reviews the proposals and makes the final selection.


□ Saturday, May 13th- Campus wide Commencement Class of 2023 at 10:30am at California Memorial Stadium

□  Friday, May 19th- Sociology Commencement at 9am

□ Keep your address, phone, and email information current via Cal Central for at least 4 months after leaving Cal, in case the university needs to contact you about the processing of your degree.


□  Check your unofficial transcript on Cal Central to make sure you've graduated!


□  Diplomas for Spring 2023 graduates

Diplomas will be automatically  mailed approximately 4 months after graduation to your address on Cal Central.  There is no fee.  For more information, see
