We are saddened to announce the passing of Professor Robert Bellah.
Mara Loveman joins Berkeley Sociology from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. She is a comparative-historical and political sociologist with broad interests in ethnoracial politics, nationalism, and the state. She is also a Latin Americanist who studies inequality and the politics of development in the region. Her research has appeared in leading journals, including American Journal of Sociology, American Sociological Review, Comparative Studies in Society and History, and Social Science Research, among others.
Irene Bloemraad received the 2013 American Cultures Innovation in Teach Award.
Trond Petersen was awarded knighthood by the King of Norway with the official title of Knight, First Class, of The Royal Norwegian Order of Merit (Ridder av forste klasse, Den Kongelige Norske Fortjensteorden). Amongst other projects, Professor Petersen has been instrumental in the founding of the Peder Sather Center for Advanced Study.
Ann Swidler named to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the prestigious 233-year-old national honorary society of leaders from academia, business, public affairs and the humanities. Once inducted, members contribute to the academy by participating in research and publishing studies in fields such as science and technology, energy and global security and social policy.
Raka Ray is a 2013 recipient of the Distinguished Graduate Student Mentoring Award for having demonstrated an outstanding commitment to helping graduate students succeed academically and professionally, and creatively pursue new ideas.
